Vol 7. Issue 8 August 2001 |
We make it your bees wax to know whats happening in Bees Baseball.
The
Metropolis Avengers are your 2001 BRASSball Minor League Organization of the Year! Congratulations to Andy Wiesner on amassing a
stunning assortment of promising young talent and also for becoming the first repeat
winner of the award!
Let's
have a look at how I determined it this year.
I
started by compiling the raw number of Total Prospects Points for all of the prospects
each BRASSball team had in it's organization. That
chart is listed below, as well as a column of interest that depicts the team's total as a
percentage of the total number of prospect points available on all rosters. In other words, this shows that portion of the
entire BRASSball League worth of promising minor league talent that was in this team's
organization.
This
column is the meat and potatoes of my final rankings.
I use it because I think it is a better measure than just overall BRASSball
rank in this category. As an example, look at
the difference between the Minnesota and Wauwatosa franchises at #8 and #9. It's extremely small at a .02% margin. But the
difference between the Metropolis and Fleetwood franchises at #1 and #2 is much more
pronounced and therefore much more significant when making comparisons. The margin here is 4.76%. Anyway, here are the rankings in this category,
which probably best depicts the overall "quality" of the organization's minor
league prospects. Metropolis was on top of
the heap with over 7,000 prospect points, or nearly 14 percent of the total all by
themselves. They eclipsed the rest of the
field by a very wide margin.

I
also compiled rankings for the overall "quanity" of prospects that made the Top
185 list, regardless of position on the lists. That
Chart is listed below, as well as the Pct. of the Total prospects on the lists for each
franchise as well. Metropolis topped this
list as well, again by a wide margin with an incredible 18 prospects.

Next, I melded these two measures together to assess the "average quality" of each prospect that made the Top 185 list, irrespective of how many players a franchise had on the list. I did this as a way of acknowledging the success of those teams who don't have a high number of prospects, but have high quality prospects. Bloomington paced the group in this category, on the strength of the very high overall quality of the 9 prospects they own.

And finally, we have the Overall Ranking Chart that adds up the combined total of all the Pct. of the Total numbers from each of three evaluative charts for all of the BRASSball franchises. We see the shining star of all the BRASSball Minor League organizations at the top of the heap, with a bunch of other fine organizations appearing up there towards the top, but none in the rarified Metropolos air. Congratulations to the Avengers and heaven help the rest of us when these youngsters mature!
