Season End
The Morris monarchs concluded their season in an un-fulfilling way. Their owner Jack Howard believes it comes from
being to close to the Chicago Cubs. Morris
started out HOT. Morris won a large
percentage of home games the first 2 months. Monarch
fans had play off aspirations. However, the
wheels fell off the bandwagon in June, and the fans started to BOOO. July got ugly and the Monarch GM dispatched Jim
Edmonds for future considerations. The
loss of Edmonds pretty well sunk the Monarchs boat and season as we limped home the rest
of the season, finishing out of the money. |
9/25 Roster
The 9/25 rosters the Monarchs submitted are
rather sparse. Composed of 20 players, 6
pitchers, and 6 amateurs. It would appear
that Morris needs to have either a good Free Agent signing period or a good Rookie Draft,
or both.
Barry Bonds
and Bret Boone are the big bangers on the roster, and Morris is adequate at all positions
except pitcher. We will probably try to
retain 2 or 3 of our restricted Free Agents, but need help now if we want to have some fun
next year. So be expecting a call or call and
make a trade offer. |
Morris Player Honors
Barry
Bonds is Morris player of the year. He
slumped late in the season ending up with a .282 batting average, but he hit 43 home runs,
scored 106 runs and drove in 114. He even
stole 8 bases without being caught once.
Curt
Leskanic claimed Morris pitcher of the year honors with his 17 saves. He won 5 of the 38 games he appeared in. |
Batting Surprises
3
part time catchers led Morris in batting average.
Tom Lampkin batted .344 in 90 ABs and late season acquisiton Greg Myers hit .310 in
116 ABs. Einar Diaz batted .294.
Pitching Surprises
None- Dessens & Sanchez won 9 games. |
Draft Coordinator
Jack Howard, Morris Monarch GM, will
coordinate this years BRASSball Rookie Draft.
Howard stated that he intends to provide a list of all available players prior to
the draft. His goal is to live up to the high
standards his predecessor, Corey Weisser, established over the years. This can only be
accomplished with your help and participation. |
