Coaches 

            The 2002 Outlaw coaching staff has been named.  Brian Budzyn (team owner) has retained the majority of the staff from last year, with a few notable additions. 

General Manager: Tommy Lasorda returns as GM.  Tommy is best known for his motivational speeches, but also has been instrumental in scouting and drafting.  Lasorda has recommended many players late in the draft who have gone on to successful Brassball careers.  He also helps out with the pre-game food spread.   

Manager: Nolan Ryan returns for his eighth season as manager of the Outlaws.  His attitude and outlook exemplify what the Outlaws preach to their players.  He may need a bit more Advil this season. 

Third Base Coach: If there were a player that would best fit the outlaw mold, it would be Lenny Dykstra.  Lenny had started an automotive repair and car wash in nearby Simi Valley, but closed up shop when he was asked to coach the Outlaws.  Dykstra returns to coach third base for the Outlaws. 

Pitching Coach: Jerry DiPoto returns for his second season as pitching coach.  DiPoto pitched four seasons for the Outlaws (1997 – 2000).  He was re-signed as an unrestricted free agent following the 2000 season, but an unfortunate illness forced him to retire.  Budzyn asked Jerry to remain with the team as pitching coach.  DiPoto has tutored prospects Matt Clement and Doug Davis, both who seem to have a lock on rotation spots entering the 2002 season. 

Trainer: When it comes to personal fitness and bodybuilding & shaping in the Southern California area, nobody questions Sara Garber’s expertise.  Sara was a “trainer to the stars” in Hollywood before joining the Outlaws staff last season.  She has her work cut out for this year when Wilson Alvarez rolls into camp. 

Team Doctor: A graduate of Arizona State University, Budzyn’s brother Dr. Mark Budzyn, joins the staff this year.  Mark had previously held the position of team trainer a few seasons ago.  Mark may be best known to the Strat-O-Matic world for winning the championship in another league just prior to that league’s collapse.  The cost of losing his team has kept him away from investing his money and owning a team again. 

Groundskeeper: Brian’s father, Jim Budzyn, returns for his eighth season as head groundskeeper.  As his son did for him while growing up, Jim cuts the grass for free.
