ROB'S QUICK HITS |

Wednesday, Sept. 11
It's pretty clear to me that revenue sharing in BRASSball has
lead to real and substantial competitive balance problems.
With equal payrolls, Ocala
and Cook County routinely wrap up their divisions in July while other teams
are seemingly out of the race in spring training.
If baseball wants to give teams like Metropolis a chance it needs to help
them overcome their inherent disadvantages.
The problem is clearly one of management and decision-making. I say, give all the owner an IQ test and the bottom twenty-five percent should get an extra $5 million a season to help make up for their deficit.

They're mortals, not supermen
For decades the city of Metropolis has been the safest city in the world. The Superfriends have fought off the mastermind supervillans like Solomon Grundy and Bizarro while also keeping the streets safe from petty criminals. Who, then, is battering and punishing a group of twenty-something young men? You won't believe the answer...

Best and worst free-agent signings
Curt Schilling made a splash with his $10 million deal, but what about the other big free-agent signings like Darin Erstad going to Box City and Brian Giles to Ocala. Which teams got stars and which got skunks? Complete column

WHAT ROB IS READING
Luchtefeld... (Bob Woodward, 2002) The unauthorized biography of Lenny Luchtefeld, Box City owner and one of the leading Lords of Baseball. While I didn't need to know he nearly flunked third grade, and fourth, once the story turned to his "youthful indiscretions" it got interesting. The author doesn't offer his opinion on the oft-rumored Presidential run by Luchtefeld, but his book would certainly serve as ammunition for political rivals.

contract.
www.bostonbaseball.com
It's hard to disagree that Boston deserves
a BRASSball team, and this website convincingly lays out the reasons why.
They appear to have their eyes set on stealing the Lions from Plaza -- probably
because no one quite knows where that is.

July 14, 1999: Avengers outfielder Todd Dunwoody was in the headlines when -- in the midst of a contract dispute -- he is seen making lewd gestures to the Metropolis left-field bleachers. Since the incident, the once promising prospect's career has spiraled. Who is to blame? Dunwoody? The Avengers' front-office for not showing him some love? Or fan Charles T. Fieber for being too mean from the stands?

Sept. 4: Rob, do you agree with Kevin Kennedy's comments that the Outlaws were right when they signed Wilson Alvarez, but that the team miscast him as their ace and didn't give him an opportunity to succeed? -- Art Vandelay
No. Honestly, I don't know what Kennedy was talking about, but that's not uncommon. The Alvarez signing was a disaster from day one, and I'm sure no one in Santa Barbara is sorry to have seen the last of him.
