Kile vs. Martinez

An absolute slugfest in this one as the Maulers come out on top 12-7.  The two squads combined for TEN homers!  Giambi rung up his 3rd & 4th of the series already while Piazza parked 2 for the victorious Maulers.  Piazza also scored 3 runs and drove in 3 others.  Neither pitcher was great, but at least Pedro was able to hang around for 8 innings for Senor Kolb.

Pedro Martinez dominated striking out 10 Minnesota batters and Mike Piazza
blasted 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Cook County Maulers defeated the
Minnesota Mudcats by a score of 12 to 7 at Bill Veeck Field.

Piazza enjoyed a big evening at the plate.  He hit a bases-empty home run in
the 1st inning, bombed a two-run dinger (his 2nd of the season) in the 2nd
inning and doubled in the 7th inning.  Cook County had 12 hits for the night.

Martinez(2-0) got the win allowing 6 runs in 8 innings. Darryl Kile(2-1) was
given the loss.  He was touched for 4 homeruns in his 1 inning of work.

Mark Lentz was upset after the game.  'I don't like to complain but did you
see that umpires strike zone?', he said.  'Maybe they ought to start calling
the strike zone the way it's printed in the rule book.'
