Stanley (Eldred 10-6,
4.35 ERA) at Fleetwood (DAmico 12-5, 4.63 ERA)
Stanley now held a commanding 2-0 lead in the series, so
Fleetwood needed a win desperately. Luckily
for Fleetwood, though, it would now have its best pitcher going in Jeff DAmico. Stanley would counter with veteran right-hander
Cal Eldred.
Things looked grim for Fleetwood early. In the top of the first, Stanley quickly grabbed
the lead on a two-run homer by Mark McGwire. But
DAmico settled down quickly, pitching scoreless frames in the second, third and
fourth innings.
Meanwhile, Fleetwood struggled to score against Cal Eldred,
who held the Walkers scoreless through three innings.
In the fourth, though, Fleetwood would break through on a 3-run homer by
shortstop Jose Valentin. This would open the
gates for the Fleetwood offense.
In the fifth inning, the Walkers scored on a solo home run by
Jim Edmonds. In the sixth, Fleetwood scored
again on a RBI double by catcher Ben Molina and an RBI single by outfielder Jeffrey
Hammonds. And then in the seventh, the
Walkers added another RBI hit by Molina. The
score was now 7-2 in favor of Fleetwood.
Fleetwood pitcher Jeff DAmico continued his brilliance,
not allowing a run after McGwires first inning homer. He entered the ninth inning with a chance at a
complete game win. DAmico had not
completed a single game in the regular season but was now within three outs of doing so in
two consecutive playoff games.
DAmico quickly retired Stanleys first batter,
Rafael Palmeiro, on a fly ball. He then
enticed Stanley catcher Joe Oliver into a groundout.
Neifi Perez then succumbed to DAmico as well, grounding out. DAmico had once again shut down the
opposition and kept Fleetwood alive. Final
score: Fleeetwood 7, Stanley 2.
Stanley now led series 2-1. WP-DAmico (2-1). LP-Eldred (0-1).

Jeff D'Amico allowed Rube Foster to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
and Jose Valentin jacked one out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI as the
Fleetwood Walkers beat the Stanley Sioux by a score of 7 to 2.
Fleetwood scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning with the help of 3

when he smacked a three-run homer (his 2nd of the season). Fleetwood had 11
hits for the night.
D'Amico(2-1) picked up the complete game victory, allowing 2 runs. Cal
Eldred(0-1) took the loss. He pitched 5 innings and surrendered 6 hits and 6
