Roger Clemens whiffed 10 batters at Bill Veeck Field where the Metropolis
Avengers beat the Cook County Maulers 5 to 2.

Clemens(6-0) gave Metropolis a solid outing.  He surrendered only 8 hits and 2
walks in 9 innings.  Both teams ended up with 8 on the afternoon.  

The loss was charged to John Patterson(2-2).  He allowed 4 hits and 3 walks in
5 and 1/3 innings.  Clemens was asked about his big strikeout performance,
'Well, it's a little odd when you rack up these numbers on the road - instead
of cheers and a running tally in the stands, everything gets real still and
quiet.  Just strange - but it's nice to be able to take the crowd out of the
game.'
