The Lions Roar

The Plaza Lions put together another strong month as they went 20-8 vs. the NL East.  Even with a very strong May, the Lions have fallen 2 games behind the “mighty” Cook County Maulers.

Louis Gonzalez continues to lead a torrid offense that is batting .319 and scoring 6.9 runs a game.  Louis leads the club with 15 home runs and 64 RBI’s and is 2nd with a .355 batting average.  Gonzalez enjoyed his 4 games in Wauwatosa as he clubbed homeruns in each game.  Jeff Kent leads the club with a .369 average and has hit 10 homeruns with 50 RBI’s.  Louis Castillo is hitting .353 and has scored 54 runs and stole 19 bases.  Mark Grace leads the Lions with 24 doubles and is batting .352.

The pitching staff has been solid so far this year as well.  Paul Abbott is off to a 9-0 start.  He has a 3.13 era and is holding hitters to a .221 batting average.  Tom Glavine is 8-2 with a 2.75 era.  Armando Benitez has done a solid job as the closer.  He has converted 14-16 save opportunities.  Turk Wendell and Scott Sauerbeck have excelled in their setup rolls for the Lions.

June will be an interesting month for the Lions as they will face the AL West.  All the teams in the West have above .500 records.  The Lions will need to continue to play well against their potential wild-card competition to have a successful June.
