Stanley, ND:

Coming off an 92-70 NL Central winning season, the Stanley Sioux looked to add in free agency to go deeper into the playoffs.  The Sioux ended up with some necessities, and held back nearly 19 million for potential acquisitions and contract extensions.

Gone from last season:

Kurt Abbott

Rico Brogna

Bryce Florie

Eddie Guaradado (re-signed, since traded)

Mike Lansing

Craig Paquette

Terry Steinbach (gone fishing)
Mike Trombley

Javier Valentin

Bob Wickman

Free agent additions from last season, along with their projected roles:

Rafael Palmeiro - starting firstbaseman

Jorge Fabregas - platoon C

Julian Tavarez - 5th starter/long relief

Cal Eldred - 4th starter

Keith Osik (an old East Indy Tigger returns) - platoon C

Scott Hatteberg - platoon C

Vinny Castilla - bench warmer

Kevin Young - backup

Matt Walbeck - platoon C

Joe Oliver - platoon C

Antonio Alfonseca (via trade) - closer

RFA's Brian Moehler and Terry Shumpert were re-signed by Stanley

Last years starting lineup sees the following projected changes:

LF - Moises Alou instead of Bernie Williams
RF - Jermaine Dye stays

CF - Bernie Williams instead of Darren Lewis

DH - Juan Gonzalez stays

1B - Rafael Palmeiro instead of Rico Brogna

2B - Carlos Febles instead of Miguel Cairo

3B - Ken Caminiti/Terry Shumpert same platoon

SS - Neifi Perez - same

C - Scott Hatteberg/Jorge Fabregas vs Terry Steinbach/Javier Valentin

In summary, the Sioux offense should remain formidable.  It remains to be seen if they have enough in the tough NL Central.  Next months issue - a minor league draft update.
